This documentary attempts to shroud the rise of German electronic and experimental music from the 1960s, centered on Kraftwerk. There are perhaps two documentaries here: one an overview of the career of Kraftwerk, and the other the development of native German music. I found the latter more keen, but I enjoyed it all.

If your interest is impartial in Kraftwerk, you may not score enough out of this to account for the time. If you are mostly strange with German music from the ’60s, picking it up, as I did, with Kraftwerk and Tangerine Dream and Neu! in the ’70s, then you may catch the first hour as enthralling as I did.

It’s definitely worth the money, and it’s on DVD, so you don’t have to gape it all at once.

I express any stab at making a Kraftwerk documentary should raise interest given what tiny is known about the band personally. What I found the most titillating was the interview with Karl Bartos since he actually had some influence and co-wrote several Kraftwerk tracks. Some of the archive footage of the bands featured are also fun to notice. Most of the interviews are with writers and journalists which grow tired and a bit expressionless for my tastes….lots of frail men mumbling into the camera and looking bored if you know what I mean.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Kraftwerk And The Electronic Revolution! Click Here

The documentary is three hours, and while I rarely complain about length with such a spirited subject, the film simply runs too long. There are endless opinions and rambling soliloquies within the interviews that had me fast-forwarding more often than I would have liked. I simply don’t care what random music journalists judge about the Kraftwerk sound, and the film would have been powerful better if the editors slit out the blathering. The film doesn’t really deal with Kraftwerk that mighty either. It trails off and discusses other artists far too worthy for its possess splendid. I understand that the title of the film is “Kraftwerk and the Electronic Revolution”, but the title quiet manages to be misleading. It may be my bear fault as I already know a spacious deal about electronic music history in general, so I would mildly recommend this DVD to those who don’t have mighty knowledge about Kraftwerk or their music. If you are like me, though, and already have all the Kraftwerk albums and dedicate yourself to experiencing electronic/experimental music regularly, I certainly would run you to pass on this DVD.

This film is a pure delight. I recently had the opportunity to peer it on the enormous cloak at a local “movie palace” on Halloween, 2001, and it was a fantastic experience.

Polanski’s intent was to effect a spooky, droll, fairy memoir and he fully succeeded. Visually the film is delicate and magical, paunchy of moon-lit, snow-covered landscapes and spooky sets. The production values are satisfactory. The music fetch by Chrisopher Komeda may be the best ever collected for a anxiety film. The pick up is spooky, haunting and tender by turns, paunchy of wailing voices, it sets the mood for the film wonderfully.

The highlight of the film is the ballroom sequence, in which the ghoulish vampires rise from their graves to dance a resplendent minuet. This scene is graceful.

Some people may be too jaded and unbiased not frigid enough to savor this film’s recent charm. Too dreadful for them. Those who are fun-loving, have a bit of innocence and savor atmosphere and mood over gore and guts will treasure the film. The cast is uniformly grand, especially Jack MacGowran and Polanski as the bumbling vampire hunters. And Sharon Tate is blooming and droll as the dizzy Sarah.

I haven’t seen all of writer/director/actor/producer Roman Polanski’s films, but the ones I have seen have kind of been hit or miss propositions for me. On the one hand I belief Rosemary’s Baby (1968) to be a wonderfully creepy film, but on the other The Tenant (1976) while absorbing, I plan to be slightly confusing and lacking a strong sense of direction. Chinatown (1974) is acknowledged by many to be a classic (to which I’d agree), while The Ninth Gate (1999) tended to annoy me with a pretentious ambiguity stemming from a European stylization of making a film obtuse and inaccessible to audiences…of course, these are all impartial my hold, personal opinions, which really don’t mean squat in the broad procedure of things…at the demolish of the day one should really contrivance their absorb conclusions based on their bear, personal experiences. As far as the film The Valiant Vampire Killers or Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck (1967) goes, I enjoyed it as it served to reaffirmed something which I already knew…whether you like Polanski’s films or not, his features are so very individualistic, rarely transgressing on each other, displaying his immeasurable talents, vision, and his ability to adapt to a wide range of material. Co-written by Gérard Brach (Repulsion) and Polanski (the latter also directed and starred), the film features performances by Jack MacGowran (Tom Jones, Doctor Zhivago), Alfie Bass (The Lavender Hill Mob), Ferdy Mayne (Where Eagles Dare, The Vampire Lovers), Iain Quarrier (Cul-de-sac), and Sharon Tate (Valley of the Dolls), who would later marry Polanski about a year prior to her kill (and that of their unborn child) at the hands of Charles Manson and his cult followers.

As the film opens, it’s a moonlit night, and we examine a horse drawn sled traveling down a snowy road, the occupant of the sled being the driver, Professor Abronsius (MacGowran), and the Professor’s assistant Alfred (Polanski), who, on the surface, appear to be a pair of buffoons, but in such a device where the same buffoonery that gets them into distress, also bag them out, illustrated throughout the yarn. Seems the Professor, who has long since been labeled `a nut’ by his once colleagues, is traveling the Transylvanian countryside in order to further his knowledge about vampires and their ilk. After arriving at a runt village and availing themselves of the services of the local inn, telltale signs abound with regards to the presence of vampire activity within the region…the interiors of the inn are decorated with strings of garlic cloves, a hunchback arrives at the inn to gather supplies, and so on…and determined enough, not soon after their arrival, the innkeeper’s daughter Sarah (Tate) is abducted, her father killed (and subsequently turned) while searching for her, and the boys are off to a nearby castle in order to win her, the Professor with an gawk towards proving the theories which he’s read, and Alfred more so because he’s become smitten with the girl. They eventually do earn the castle, along with its master, in that of Count von Krolock (Mayne), along with the Count’s very effeminate son Herbert (Quarrier) …quite the aristocratic pair they are…the Professor and Alfred gather themselves guests of the Count and learn of a gargantuan gala approaching, one to be held within the castle, a sort of cadaverous celebration where the boys may not only be the guests of honor, but also the main course…

I’ve given some details about the spot, but there’s really no method what I’ve written displays all the unbelievable aspects inherent within the epic and the film itself. There is impartial so worthy going on at any one point one could study this film a number of times and aloof look something current each viewing. One of the aspects that impressed me the most, from the beginning and throughout the film, was the extensive amount of detail and attention to creating a complete sense of putting the viewer within the context of the myth. It’s like a fairy fable reach to life. The period sets and pieces are exquisitely magnificent and intricate, featuring a serious gape towards detailing, as are the props, costumes, backdrops, etc. There’s fair such a pervasive feel to the entire film in terms of providing the appropriate gothic setting, something that mature to be a popular factor in both Hammer and Universal terror productions during their respective heydays…and hold in mind, this is supposed to a mixing of comedy and fright. And when I say comedy, I don’t mean the laugh out kind (there is a capable deal of slapstick, but that’s not the specific humor I’m talking about here), but a slinky, subtle type of humor blended as well as I’ve ever seen in a atrocious genre film. A perfect example of this radiant melding comes in the sequence when Alfred, while searching the castle rooms for Sarah, accidentally walks in on the Count’s dandy of a son Herbert. The laughable touches in Herbert’s coy advances soon erupt into an explosion of fanged violence that results in a Keystone Cops type lope through the castle. Another one of my common sequences is when the Count and his son are preparing to retire to their ornate coffins prior to the sun rising, aided by their hunchbacked manservant Koukol. After they glean settled in (and boxed up), here comes Shagal (Bass), the once innkeeper now vampire, dragging his meager pine box into the crypts with the intent of also settling in for the day. Koukol, seeing this as an affront to his masters, proceeds to unceremoniously shuffle the coffin, which Shagal is now sitting in, down to the stables, as that’s a seemingly more appropriate setting from someone of his class, with Shagal weakly protesting the entire plot. The performances are strong all around, particularly that of Count von Krolock, played by Mayne. He embodies the aristocratic and inferior features one would examine from his character, along with including enough distinctions to separate his character from those of his cinematic ilk. Another astonishing aspect is the unusual music provided by regular Polanski collaborator and composer Krzysztof Komeda. It’s suave, sophisticated, spooky, curious, oft times understated, and compliments film without actually drawing away from the visuals. All in all this is perhaps one of the best crafted films I’ve seen straddling two genres that normally don’t play well together, and worth a sight for those who can relish the expertise enthusiastic. In terms of contemporary artists, I might compare this to the better outings by individuals like Terry Gilliam or Tim Burton.

Presented on this DVD is the unusual version of the film, the one seen by European audiences. Apparently, prior to the film’s American release, MGM had mangled it elegant well, removing about ten minutes, adding a novel opening sequence, and hacking the soundtrack to pieces, which might clarify why it didn’t do as well here as it did overseas. The anamorphic widescreen (2.35:1) does looks very capable, but there does seem room for improvement. The Dolby Digital 2.0 mono audio comes through desirable. As far as extras, there’s a theatrical trailer for the film (also presented in 2.35:1 aspect ratio, along with a funny vintage featurette titled The Courageous Vampire Killers: Vampires 101 (10:18) which appears to be a lengthy promotional share created to aid advertise the film encourage when it was originally released.

I ordered this residence a while relieve and was elated with the release. It has all season 2 episodes in production order. There are no bonus features, but everything in this release is consistent to the “The Fairly OddParents: Season 1″ and “The Fairly OddParents: Season 6, Volume 1″ sets.

There are two problems that really bug me bug probably won’t bug anyone else:

1. The case is actually dusky instead of the frosty sure one on Season 6, Volume 1. It’s OK, but a obvious one would see waay better.

2. When you engage one episode, it will play it, but once it’s over will go suitable into the next one like selecting a chapter in a movie. This really annoys me.

3. There is no insert with episode descriptions, which was always a nice touch.

Again, these annoy me, but probably not you. =)

For a total of 14 episodes (25 segements) .

The 3 specials included are “Christmas Every Day!”, “Information Stupor Highway” and “Scary GodParents!” for a total runtime of 330 minutes.

FOP season 1, the strengths of this DVD space are the fact that the sound and characterize quality are very high, and the episodes are in production order. Unfortunately like the previous release, this does not have any special features. However, it does have two episodes that are not shown any more of The Fairly OddParents; Hail to the Chief and Twistory on Disc 3. There is, also, the Fool’s Day Out and Deja Vu, both which are usually shown on April 1st. The Christmas Everyday, Information Stupor Highway, and Scary Godparents special episodes are, also, on this DVD. These factors are what have contributed to me giving this particular area of DVD’s a powerful higher rating. It is worth buying if you want to have all of the episodes of Season 2. All in all a very first-rate DVD.

i was an 11 year broken-down when the events in this movie took dwelling. col. marcus was often a guest at our house, prior to going to encourage israel. my father was a member of the nypd, and was one of the pallbearers for col. marcus. in addition to that, he was also eager in helping the israelis salvage weapons [pistols, ammo, and radios]. i saw this movie whwn it 1st came out, and memories were refreshed. i also visited israel, and went to latrun and up the ‘burma road’ to jerusalem. to this day, there are the remnants of military vehicles destroyed in battle by the arab forces, which entirely out manned and outgunned the fledgling israeli army. one of the results of col. marcus’ untimely death was the mandatory learning of hebrew for all modern immigrants, no exceptions! despite all the negative reviews, this reviewer knew col. marcus, and other fighters for the fledgling israeli army. this review refers to the book, the camouflage version, and the vhs tape. it is worth buying this movie.

First off, this film contains a rousing glean by Elmer Bernstein. It is shining. Melville Shavelson wrote and directed this sprawling biographical action recount about (Colonel) “Mickey” Marcus (Kirk Douglas), a West Point graduate and an adviser to President Roosevelt during W.W.II, who, at the seek information from of the Israelis, went to there in the unhurried 40s to re-organize their army. In this sage, based on a book by Ted Berkman, Mickey Marcus is the master strategist who leads the Israelis to victory in the war with the Arabs. Melville Shavelson admires him, making him the frosty but enigmatic leader. Shavelson is very involved to please the audience enough to throw in numerous guest stars, such as Frank Sinatra and Yul Brynner, and agonizes over Mickey’s legal conflict between Angie Dickinson, the wife he leaves at home in the U.S., and Senta Berger, the female warrior he takes up with. Even those willing to collect the hours of incoherence and banality may recoil at the obscenity of being asked to experience the horrors of Dachau as reflected in John Wayne’s bleary eyes. It also features Topol, James Donald, Stathis Giallelis, Ruth White, Gordon Jackson, Luther Adler, Gary Merrill, and Jeremy Kemp. Bag the soundtrack.

Movie Title: Heavy Metal

Heavy Metal is available for streaming or downloading.

I can’t bear the number of negative reviews this movie has gotten! I bet these people don’t like James Bond movies, either.

To fully indulge in Heavy Metal, one has to understand the era it came out in. At the time, most animation, at least what was seen in the US, was frequently of the “family entertainment” variety seen in Saturday morning cartoons and TV commercials. Apart from Ralph Bakshi, most animators were basically shackled by the need to exhibit something that was “rated G”. Heavy Metal took the actual opposite route. It was a liberating experience for the animators working on the film to be allowed to intention things they usually weren’t allowed. And they got paid to do it, too!

After the opening Soft Landing sequence, we’re introduced to the Loc-Nar, a stunning green orb responsible for all the imperfect that has plagued the universe (or at least, that which has plagued the human run) . The various stories contained in the film are told by the Loc-Nar to a young girl, as examples of it’s awesome power.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Heavy Metal! Click Here

The stories include the film noir homage Harry Canyon, the male “wish fulfillment fantasy” of Den (which demonstrates the versatility of the slack John Candy, who voices both Dan, the science nerd who gets transported into an alternate dimension by the Loc-Nar, as well as Den, the Conan/He-Man-esque beefcake that he is magically transformed into), the highly droll Captain Sternn (trivia: the whisper of the prosecutor is done by John Vernon, the actor who portrayed Dean Wormer in Animal House), the EC-esque B-17 (aka Gremlins, which went through so many script revisions, it’s a miracle it got finished at all), the bizarrely hilarious So Resplendent And So Uncertain (ok, maybe there’s some truth to the juvenilia charges during this segment, but only a corpse could hold from laughing at this part), and revenge scenario of Taarna (imagine a tougher, sexier version of Xena, only about a decade and a half earlier) .

While there IS some element of juvenilia here, it’s no worse than any other movie that’s been released by any major studio during the last 25 years. In fact, I bet it’s a diminutive more cerebral than most of those other movies. Harry Canyon is a rather crafted film noir homage, while some elements of Taarna are clearly patterned on Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns. And while there are a couple sex scenes and a clear amount of excessive violince in Heavy Metal, again, it’s nothing compared to some of the garbage that’s shown on cable TV these days. I’d certainly rather search for this than Basic Instinct or No Intention Out.

This movie is a classic allotment of animation. Yeah, some of it’s rough around the edges, but that has a lot to do with Columbia’s decision to fade up the deadline so they could have the modern movie out in time for the summer 81 season. One has to think the scope of the undertaking, and the relatively short time that was at hand to build it.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Heavy Metal! Click Here

Look at the “travelling sequence” during Taarna, where she’s shown riding her mount (a sort of colossal bird creature) over a rolling landscape, and believe that it was done WITHOUT the exercise of any kind of computer generated work. It’s explained in the audio commentary on the rough crop of the film, as well as during the documentary how it was done, and why it didn’t quite turn out as planned) . No one had ever done anything like that, and it had to all be done by hand.

Really, you can’t retract this movie too seriously. It’s a movie that exists soley to entertain. There’s no great message or point to the movie. Honest attach the DVD in the player, turn out the lights, turn up the volume LOUD, and unprejudiced indulge in the meander.

It should be well-known, that this disc also contains some of the best bonus features I’ve seen on any DVD. Besides the regular movie, you score a elephantine length “rough crop” of the film, consisting of storyboards, pencil tests, and some completed animation. The only audio for this rough gash (besides the optional audio commentary, by Carl Macek, who also does a completely different commentary for the finished movie) is the dialog. There’s long stretches of silence, but it’s worth watching, as there’s lots of bits of dialog that were cleave from the final movie (we learn, for instance, that Katharine, like Den, was also transformed when she was transported to this mysterious alternate universe) . It’s also racy to ticket that the stories weren’t always in the order that they were in the final movie.

There’s also a half hour documentary with interviews from many of the filmmakers interested in making the film. We finally regain out why we watch a model of a house blowing up at the destroy (because they didn’t have time to conclude the animation for that one bit), and also why Cornelius Cole’s Neverwhere Land was slice from the movie (either for reasons of length/continuity, or because Cole didn’t effect it in time, depending on exactly which version of the tale you wish to own.

You also regain a few minutes of deleted scenes, most notably the above mentioned Neverwhere Land, which was originally supposed to link Captain Sternn and B-17. There’s also a few minutes that surround an early version of the framing account (in whence the Loc-Nar was actually the power source of a magical merry-go-round, and the various objects on the merry-go-round related in one scheme to the stories…ie, there’s a taxicab, Taarna’s mount, etc…each time the girl takes a sprint in a different vehicle on the merry-go-round, she experiences a different myth) .

And finally, you earn all Heavy Metal covers up through 1999, plus various bits of production drawings, cels, etc.

In short, this is a classic film that should be viewed by all fans of animation and/or heavy flicks. Prudes and conservatives who catch cranky at the very plan of a movie being ruined by a cramped too worthy flesh or blood (and really, there isn’t THAT powerful of either in this film) or a petite warped humor (ok, there’s PLENTY of that here) are advised to support away. I unbiased wish they had restored Neverwhere Land to it’s unique residence between Captain Sternn and B-17.

Some critics and film historians have labeled 1981’s HEAVY METAL as the last film to genuinely mediate the mishmash sensibilities of the post-hippy 1970s counter-culture, and stylistically and thematically this appears to be moral. Based on the adult counter-culture cult funny of the same name, HEAVY METAL definitely is a sort of spacey concatenation of disparate visual aesthetics and heterogeneous science-fiction/fantasy narratives. But despite being a hodgepodge as a whole, the film tranquil manages to offer a very provocative arrangement to demolish 90 minutes.

As with the magazine, the film is basically aimed at horny male adolescents, offering plenty of nude, amply bosomed women running around in the midst of stylized violence and gore; lots of rock music (though these ditties from favorite metal bands of the gradual ’70s may not appeal to the fresh generation of horny male adolescents) ; and references to the drug-oriented sub-culture (definitely not a cartoon for the pre-teen crowd) . Each individual segment of HEAVY METAL was scripted and directed independently of the others, which likely accounts for the varying radiant and story styles. But many of these contributors were (and are now) some of the most talented people in the film industry, including writers Dan O’Bannon, Len Blum, and Daniel Goldberg, and directors John Bruno, John Halas, and Jimmy T. Murikami. (Gerald Potterton, listed in the credits as the film’s director, was in reality the overseer for the project as a whole.)

Because the film does not occupy a single cohesive plotline, it is best to evaluate each absorbing segment in its gain lawful. Some of those individual stories are quite thought-provoking or humorous–or both–and even some of the more mediocre segments peaceful offer some amazing visuals. One of the most intellectually animated is a tale called DEN, in which a young bespectacled geek is transported into a parallel universe and transformed into a splendid, muscled barbarian hero. After falling in like with a curvaceous maiden, he helps her set aside her people from their draconian Caligula-like dictator. B-17 is probably the most earnest segment, though there seems to be no intrinsic logic to the sparse record. In it, the expressionless crewmembers of a WWII bomber plane are inexplicably resurrected as flesh-eating zombies, subsequently seeking to beget a meal of the plane’s still-living pilot. Visually, however, this segment is quite handsome, evoking the deliciously evil artistic style of the mature E.C. comics of the ’50s and early ’60s. And in the funniest segment–entitled SO Glowing, SO DANGEROUS–a delicate Pentagon secretary is inadvertently sucked into an alien spaceship that resembles a ample smiley face. After confronting the spaced-out druggie crewmembers, she ultimately becomes the lover of the ship’s robot and decides to remain aboard.

After its initial release, HEAVY METAL attained a cult following of sorts and became a current of the midnight-movie crowd. Unfortunately, its release to the home-video market was delayed for years due to disputes over copyrights for some of the rock songs old-fashioned in the soundtrack. Because of this, poorly produced bootlegged copies of the flick were illegally sold (usually at Sci-fi cons) and swapped among fans, and the deplorable video quality contributed to the film’s unfair reputation for being a mediocre film. But the music disputes were eventually resolved somehow, and the film became commercially available to the home market in the mid 1990s and regained its popularity as a icy cartoon. (Some statistics expose that it is the most favorite film in the Columbia/Tristar home-video catalog.)

Columbia/Tristar’s Special-Edition DVD of HEAVY METAL offers a sparkling digital transfer of the film and soundtrack, along with some really cold bounus material. For animation fans, one of the best of the bonus features is a lively feature-length pencil-test version of the film (with optional commentary) . Columbia/Tristar also offers a version of the HEAVY METAL in their SuperBit collection, but as with their other SuperBit films, the disc area required for the higher bit rate precludes the inclusion of any bonus material. Unless the buyer has a high-definition TV and can luxuriate in the increased record quality of the SuperBit disc, the Special-Edition version is the method to go. Either draw, HEAVY METAL offers enough entertainment value to compose it a noble addition to the DVD collection of any SF or animation fan.

If you are looking for a position of videos covering the history of aviation, then my advice is sustain looking.

Whilst it is certainly a comprehensive collection of historic video thanks to NARA in Washington DC (the National Archives and Records Administration) and contains distinguished of interest to any aviation fan,the set’s title and blurb on the box is basically downright misleading.

The text on the box talks about “jumbo jets circling the globe” and admits that “the aiplane has been adapted for a variety of uses, for civilian and military transport(ation),for assist, rescue and emegency transport and for the sheer joy of soaring into the heavens”, which to me says that it covers all aspects of aviation

It continues.”On the darker side the entire world has witnessed the destructive power of military aviation”

However the powers that be at NARA have obviously concluded that the entire history of aviation comprises this darker side because, except for mammoth 1909 archive footage of Orville Wright demonstrating his first military aeroplane and waiting for his miltary “passenger” to bag comfortable, the only aspects of aviation covered in this otherwise beautiful situation of DVDs is military whilst completely ignoring any other exercise of aeroplanes. This all rather exclusive because I would have view that the majority of aircraft built in 100 years have been airliner and private or business aircraft and surely there are many most considerable events and achievements that are completely ignored or perhaps NARA have no videos of people like Charles Lindberg,Alcock and Brown,Juan Plug, Howard Hughes to name a few sure notables in the overall history of aviation.

This is a colossal DVD residence. I bought this for my son who is currently doing an internship in aerospace engineering, and he was thrilled to have something like this. Very informative.

I’ve a soft location for this one, having watched it the first time around in 1980 (which is when it reached the UK) . No doubt that it’s the power of Ray Bradbury’s unique stories that carries it.

In a sense, you’ve got to switch off your brain to delight in this. Or perhaps I should say you should switch of your Left Brain: the logical, analytical piece. For example, we all know now that people can’t breathe on the surface of Mars without status suits. Let it go! If you can’t do that then don’t bother with this DVD. Switch on your Apt Brain (imagination) and you’ve a chance of enjoying this… impartial a chance though!

First, let’s obtain the unpleasant stuff out of the draw. The special effects are abominable. I know that they didn’t have CGI etc then, but this was 2 years after Star Wars, or in a TV sense, a year after Battlestar Galactica. I’d have expected a major US network to have at least bettered Dr Who or Blake’s 7 standards; but they didn’t.

The perambulate is very humdrum. Sometimes that lets the stories unfold at a natural stride, but a lot of the time, you’re tapping your fingers, thinking “win on with it!”. In this regard, Bradbury was scathing in his comments at the time: “it’s dull, they’ve made it tiring,”, he said. And he had no doubt where the blame lay, saying that Michael Anderson had directed it “underwater”. He wasn’t evil.

And often, the acting doesn’t abet. Rock Hudson has never been the most intelligent actor in the world, and he’s particularly dreary here. Positive, he does integrity and trustworthiness impartial pleasing, but there were times that I felt his character needed a dinky more fire in his belly and Hudson doesn’t provide it. The rest of the cast is variable, to achieve it mildy. At one ruin, Bernie Casey is unbiased pleasing as Spender, and Nicholas Hammond, best remembered as a rather plastic 70s Spiderman, is equally fine as the leader of the second expedition. At the other kill, Roddy McDowell is impartial boring irritating as Father Stone.

Now the top-notch stuff!

The sets are broad, and the Martians themselves are wonderfully “other wordly”, helped by the fact that they are frail sparingly.

Plotwise, there’s some helpful changes been made. I know that people here have referred to Bradbury’s work as a “modern” but it’s not: it’s actually a collection of loosely connected short stories. Hide writer Richard Matheson sensibly drops some of the more unworkable novel stories, such as “Draw Up In The Middle Of The Air” (negroes in the American South climb into a spaceship to hasten their white oppressors) and also the modern second expedition myth, where the earthlings’ “first contact” is with a Martian lunatic asylum!.

His masterstroke is to unify the work by beefing up the role of Colonel John Wilder (Hudson) so that he appears in nearly all the stories. (In Bradbury’s book, Wilder appeared in only two of them) . In one legend, this change actually manages to improve on the unusual. I refer to the fable (spoiler ahead!) of the Martian who changes shape, according to the wants and desires of the human person that’s nearest to him. In the mini series, the Martian ends by changing succor to his steady compose, because he bumps into Wilder (not in this narrative in Bradbury’s book) . Wilder is the only person on Mars that actually wants to meet a right, live Martian.

A sentimental 4 stars.

I first saw the “Martian Chronicles” miniseries as a child — before reading Bradbury’s book — and it’s made an indelible impression on me. Many of the special effects don’t possess up, and the pacing of some of the scenes is glacial. I can understand Bradbury’s criticism that the miniseries was dreary. But the collect is incredible, and the production accomplish is unforgettable — the geometric structures of the Martian cities, the frightful masks that the Martians wear, etc. Despite the lapses in effects and budget, and the obviousness of the dwelling shooting (no red sky, etc.), the miniseries achieves a distinctive stare and feel. There is nothing else like it in sci-fi television.

Some of the sequences simply don’t work. I always fast-forward through the endless scenes of the two priests wandering in the desert looking for magnificent spheres; and the “Genevieve Selsor” sequence with Bernadette Peters is wearisome as well. But the adaptation of “And the Moon Be Detached As Radiant,” with Bernie Casey indelible as Spender, aloof works. In a later segment, Wilder’s nighttime meeting with a ghostly Martian from the past (or future? ) retains an elegiac tone, and provides a exquisite obliging manifesto on how life ought to be lived. Elsewhere, there’s a sand-ship poke sequence that looks cheesy, but those spooky zoom shots of the masked Martians as they pursue Sam Parkhill mild unnerve me. Parkhill’s discovery of nuclear war on Earth — viewed through a telescope — is a memorable moment, powerfully scored. And the “second expedition” sequence, with the astronauts somehow finding themselves in Green Bluff, Illinois, rather than on Mars, reaches a climax that is unexcited downright horrible.

It’s hard to say how grand of the miniseries I am viewing through the lens of nostalgia — I am, perhaps, being more forgiving than it deserves. But to those seeking offbeat sci-fi offerings, this is worth a contemplate.

A huge many people say that Argento’s European version of Dawn of the Stupid, titled “Zombi,” is neither better nor worse than Romero’s masterpiece; it’s unprejudiced another director’s pick. Some have even said, as Argento’s version cuts out most of the black humor and is shorter, that it’s better. I could not disagree more. Before I inaugurate let me produce it abundantly certain that I deem Argento is the best scare director out there, with Deep Red, Suspiria, and Tenebre easily ranking among the absolute greatest alarm films ever made. So what’s despicable with Argento’s version of Dawn of the Insensible? Gay you asked, dear reader. Argento, notoriously, does not like to work with actors. He also does not seem to care mighty about character development. This really shows in his version of Dawn of the Plain. Many of the scenes pertaining to character development are lacking in Argento’s version. He takes many of the scenes pertaining to the taking of the mall, the orderly up, and settling in - the shopping, dining, and attempting to live normally, etc., and only shows brief clips of them. Compared to Romero’s version these clips seem highly random. As a result the yarn does not journey nearly as well as it does in Romero’s version fo the film. There is little-to-no create up, and absolutely no character development. Roger isn’t shown starting to loose it; he’s impartial all-of-a-sudden crazy. The drama between flyboy and his girl isn’t shown developing; he’s unprejudiced all-of-a-sudden emotionally destroyed. It’s all exquisite random and ludicrous. Many of the best scenes in Romero’s version are here altogether missing: the crack about hicks loving it the procedure it is; the zombie getting the top of its head knocked off by the chopper blades; the noteworthy loved Muzak that pipes through the mall. In fact, a couple of times, the order Argento shows the scenes in is literally so random that it actually results in a few mistakes in the film. The soundtrack by The Goblins, which Argento uses more than Romero, does not always fit the film. Argento, for instance, spends map more time with the looters at the slay of the film (almost a half hour out of two hours for the whole movie!), and he plays annoying heavy metal music almost throughout the entire scene. Here the scene of the bikers that attack the mall is long, drawn out, and anticlimatic. Aside from the fact that Argento’s version simply does not meander well or create (I felt like I was watching a long trailer for Romero’s director’s chop), it also lacks powerful of the social commentary Romero’s film has regarding consumerism. Further, Argento’s version also utterly lacks the feeling of excitement that Romero’s film creates. In Romero’s version the four characters dash crisis, win the mall, go “hunting,” well-kept up the mess, and then begin settling down into the caricature of a normal existence when tragedy again strikes. The scenes of these characters rebuilding their lives in the mall are some of the best parts of the film, and are all but missing in Argento’s choppy film. To enact, in my book, Romero’s version wins hands down. Argento’s, surprisingly, is a mess compared to it. By the blueprint, Lucio Fulci named his zombie masterpiece “Zombi 2″ so that Europeans might consider it was a sequel to Argento’s release. Incidentally, Fulci’s Zombi is also a grand better film than Argento’s Zombi. I am not saying, however, that Argento’s version isn’t worth watching. In fact, it’s very instructional to glimpse both versions. It’s astonishing how many variables must approach together to get a obedient film; it goes far beyond merely having a worthy script, director, and actors. Watching these two versions makes it positive that one must also have qualified editors, and a valid soundtrack as well, as the same footage, shown with a different soundtrack, can have a dramatically different feel. This is evidenced by comparing the American, dubbed versions of films with alternate soundtracks to the current foreign film (such as The Prodigal Son, for instance.) So observe them both, by all means. To me they are very different, as different as Schrader and Harlin’s versions of the Exorcist prequel.

I judge myself a fan of Romero’s and of zombie movies in general, so it was pleasing cold to peruse this reach out on its maintain. Dawn of the Wearisome was released in Europe as Zombi, with Dario Argento recutting Romero’s classic.

Unfortunately, the 4 disc status was not available when I bought Dawn of the Dreary, so it’s expansive to view they released ZOMBI as a solo offering. For those who fill the 4 disc Dawn of the Plain boxed space, this version of Zombi has all the true same features, so this is not for you.

For those who have only the one version, or for those who have never seen any of the Romero zombie movies, this is the version to witness. The soundtrack by Goblin is elegant creepy, great of the modern humor is toned down, and you accept a scarier and more moving version of an already scary and enthralling movie.

While Zombi may seem tame by today’s standards, in it’s day it was considered a shocking flick. For fans of panic and gore, this is the movie to peer. Fans of Romero will dig seeing his vision through someone else’s eyes. Those who maintain the novel Dawn of the Tedious but who don’t want to choose the box site, think this a bonus disc.

I assume this is one of the worst DVD attempt by Universal Studio. They have totally ignore the fans of this movie. The relate transfer of this movie to DVD was not up to the standard. And why in the world they will only release this in Fleshy Cover format only? What happen to the Widescreen format? I am determined many of us here like to peer this movie as it meant to be seen. I felt like cheated by the studio. I should have read the dazzling print..”FULLSCREEN” I suggest not to purchase this dvd and wait for better quality dvd version of this movie. I deem Arnold should say something to the studio..”What Ah you thinking?!!”

Great flick, genuine for all ages, and above all else, it’s SCHWARZENEGGER!!! I would really like to search for a widescreen special edition of this film, but Universal is severely lacking in that department. The recount quality isn’t that large and it’s only available in fullscreen pan and scan. But it’s a immense film either blueprint.
